# Editorial policy

## Who's behind the site

Owned Outright is written and built by [Ashutosh Anand](https://ownedoutright.com/about/), a software engineer. There's no separate editorial team, and no page has yet been reviewed by an outside mortgage or tax professional. If that changes, the reviewer will be named on each page they check.

## Where the facts come from

Rules and limits, such as when PMI must end or how FHA mortgage insurance works, come from primary sources: federal law and regulators (CFPB, HUD, IRS) and the published guides of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Articles link to the source next to the claim. Where a rule depends on your lender's policy, we say so rather than present it as a right.

## How the numbers are checked

- Every figure in a calculator or worked example comes from one calculation engine, not typed in by hand. Examples are recalculated each time the site is built.
- The engine has an automated test suite, checked against published payment figures and against rules that must always hold, for example that principal repaid adds up to the loan to the cent.
- The method, with formulas and known limits, is published on [How we calculate](https://ownedoutright.com/methodology/).

## How pages are written

We use AI writing and coding tools to help draft pages and code. The author checks every page before it's published, and every number comes from the tested engine, not from the tools. We write for the reader's decision: when the honest answer is "it depends", we explain what it depends on.

## Reviews and updates

Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. Pages are rechecked when a rule or limit they rely on changes, such as a new IRS standard deduction or a change to FHA premiums, and at least once a year.

## Corrections

If something looks wrong, email [hello@ownedoutright.com](mailto:hello@ownedoutright.com) with the page and what you found. We correct errors as soon as they're confirmed, and changes to how a calculator works are logged on the methodology page.
